SPECIAL NEEDS COORDINATORS
|
The following is a list of people who are qualified to test for a variety of different learning problems. You will need to contact them to find out what they test for, cost, and availability.
Covenant Christian Academy has copies of the Scottish Rite tapes used to help students with dyslexia and other verbal learning differences. The tapes require workbooks that must be purchased by the parents, but the tapes and some of the teachers guides are available for checkout from CCA. Families who wish to use the tapes enter into a contract with CCA and pay a fee to help cover the cost of the program. Younger students complete a two year program that covers their language arts curriculum and older students (13+) complete the literacy program that is for one year. For more information about the tape program, please contact Darlene Hilton.

YEARLY ACHIEVEMENT TESTING
|
CCA requires that all students in grades four and up be tested each year using the Stanford Achievement Test. Any student with a specified learning disablility can recieve accommodation on these tests. The parent will need to notify CCA if they want their child accommodated on the tests. Laurie Callahan will be coordinating the accommodated testing. Any parent who is requesting accommodation for their child should be willing to volunteer to help with testing. Parents will be trained in how to give the tests to the students with special needs.
If a student has been tested during the school year by another source, they can be exempt from the Stanford. You will need to give a copy of the testing to the Superintendent for the student's file and ask her for an exemption. We realize that standardized acheivment testing is not always the best way to test a student with special needs. Our goal is to give parents a tool to help them assess the progress of their student and to evaluate the effectiveness of their curriculum. Please communicate with us if you have a problem in this area.
